Come in and view some of our fantastic historic photos here at the library. Life was certainly different back in 1908, when that class of high schoolers(pictured here) was set to graduate. We have many albums, individual photos, and more to satisfy your interest in Winchester history. Come in and visit, and one of our enthusiastic librarians will point you in the direction you need to head to discover a piece of Winchester history you may have never seen before!

Festival of Trees Produces 3 Winners!

The Winchester Public Library’s open house and Festival of Trees was held this past Saturday, December 12th. There were 16 tree entries and 4 wreathes in this year’s Festival of Trees, and after ballots were counted, a three way tie was discovered in the tree category! This year’s winners are: The City of Winchester with their clever “C.O.W.” tree, Becky Terry with her fun “Mary Kay Pink” feather tree, and The United Methodist Church Women with their cute themed tree “Jesus is the best gift.” “Jae’s Place” was the winner in the wreath category.We thank all of those groups and individuals that shared their time and creativity in displaying a tree this year, all of the entries were unique, fun, and beautiful! Happy Holidays everyone!

Open House Approaching and Poinsettias Available For Pick Up

The Winchester Public Library open house and voting on the festival of trees will be on Saturday, December 12th, from 12-2 pm. Voting will be on all 15 trees decorated by civic groups and individuals from 10-12 and 12-2 on Saturday. The open house will feature a program of Christmas music at 1:00, and drawing for 2 poinsettias as door prizes, shortly thereafter.

Those who have purchased a holiday poinsettia in support of the library, are urged to pick them up this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 10th, 11th, and 12th.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and we hope to see you THIS Saturday, December 12th, from 12-2!

WPL Host to Legislative Open House December 1st

Take this opportunity to visit with local legislators regarding the value of public libraries and the needs of library patrons. A short presentation about the 2010 library legislative agenda will be followed by a question and answer session and lively discussion. Refreshments will be served. 6 pm-8 pm.

Christmas Festival of Trees and Open House set for December 12th

The Winchester Public Library annual open house will be held Saturday, December 12th, from 12-2 pm.

Refreshments and entertainment will be provided, as well as your opportunity to vote for your favorite tree or wreath, uniquely decorated by local civic groups and individuals*. All those attending will be eligible to enter the door prize drawing! We hope to see you there!

*Those interested in providing an artificial decorated tree or wreath, please contact the library @-913-774-4967 to sign up.

Help Support the Library With Fresh, Beautiful Poinsettias!

Fresh. Festive. For yourself or a friend. Your poinsettias will bring beauty to the holidays.

Each plant is $15 each, and there are six different varieties to choose from.

Pots are 6.5″ with 5-7 blooms , covered in florist foil.

Orders–including full payment–will be accepted until November 20th.

Pick up will be at the Library on the following days:

Thursday, December 10th from 10am-7pm

Friday, December 11th, from 12 noon-5pm

or at our Holiday Open House and Festival of Trees: Saturday, December 12th from 10am-Noon.

Pick up your order form at the library today, and enjoy fresh, beautiful poinsettias in your home for the holidays!

Where The Wild Things Are

Do you remember the phrase “Let the wild rumpus start?” If so, then some wonderful soul once read you the unforgettable book: “Where The Wild Things Are.” This is a childhood favorite of many, that captures the imagination and attention of children so easily. Check out the movie in theaters this Friday , based on this beloved children’s favorite by Maurice Sendak. And don’t forget to come and check out a copy of this book, or many other “monster themed” delights here at the library! Happy Reading.
